Funding for Youth Ideas: Institute and City of Tuzla Providing 60,000 BAM

The CEO of the Institute for Youth Development KULT Jasmin Bešić and the Mayor of the City of Tuzla Jasmin Imamović signed a partnership agreement today, which will provide 60,000 BAM to young people in Tuzla. The agreement involves supporting and establishing a model for funding non-governmental organizations working on youth issues.

This agreement is very important for the Institute, because we appreciate how youth work is developing here. Tuzla has a Strategy and a Youth Council, and we want to encourage youth organizations to help implement the measures and the Youth Strategy. We also want to learn together with Tuzla in terms of improving the criteria for the allocation of funds for youth projects and see how we can better measure the impacts and results of projects”, said Jasmin Bešić, CEO of the Institute for Youth Development KULT.

In Tuzla’s Youth Strategy, youth policy is a priority, emphasizing natural and cultural heritage as key factors for human development. Young people are crucial for the development of Tuzla, said Imamović, thanking the Institute for years of cooperation.

“We also adopted a Youth Strategy as a sub-strategy of our Tuzla Development Strategy 2026 and set up a special department covering culture, sports, social protection, and youth issues. We have grants in the Budget for young people’s projects. Now, we need to change the Rules of Procedure. According to the existing Rules of Procedure, only political parties had representatives in working bodies, and now youth organizations will also have their representatives in the Youth Commission. We need to give young people the opportunity to lead us in the future, both this city and this country”, said Jasmin Imamović, mayor of Tuzla.

There are 21 organizations registered in Tuzla that deal with youth issues. Several representatives attended the signing of the agreement pledging 60,000 BAM for youth projects. They were happy, excited and eager to apply for funding.

“To me, this is extremely important because the City of Tuzla has already proven to be a true friend for our young people, and this represents the next step in ensuring better conditions and opportunities for youth to actively participate in and contribute to the city’s development and policy-making. With the increase in grants for young people, there is now a greater opportunity for them to directly impact our local community through their projects,” said Dina Bajraktarević from the Tuzla Open Center.

Four local communities have been selected to collaborate with the Institute in supporting the development of young people. Last week, agreements were signed with the City of Banja Luka and the Municipality of Teslić.

These activities are part of the Capacity Building Works initiative, which is supported by the Government of Switzerland and implemented by the Institute for Youth Development KULT.
