FBiH Youth Strategy: Improving the Lives of Young People

The development of the first youth strategy for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is nearing completion. At another successful meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group for developing the 2024-2027 Youth Strategy for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the members agreed on the content and structure of this strategic document. The Working Group made an invaluable contribution with numerous suggestions and comments, which will improve the quality of the first youth strategy in the FBiH.

A special emphasis is placed on ensuring that all strategic goals and priorities outlined in the document incorporate provisions for youth participation in decision-making processes and ensure equal opportunities for all young people in the FBiH. The hopes and expectations of all those involved in this process are that the proposed priorities, measures, and activities across thematic areas will improve opportunities for young people and their quality of life in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Developing the youth strategy is a significant step forward in establishing a systemic approach to youth care. The process of developing this document over the past few months has been extremely demanding and complex.

The youth strategy establishes the foundation for future programs and activities targeting young people, with the ultimate goal of improving their position across all areas outlined in the strategy. The strategy document outlines a comprehensive and systematic approach to addressing the issues and needs of young people in the Federation of BiH. This entails finding effective and feasible solutions to improve the quality of both formal and informal education, prioritize youth health care, improve safety for young people, and introduce new programs and content in culture, sports, environment, and tourism. It also aims to support youth activism through the proper implementation of the FBiH Youth Law.

It is important to note that the document also includes the opinions and perspectives of young people, as their suggestions and ideas were considered during the Youth and Government Dialogue held in May.

The FBiH Ministry of Culture and Sports is developing the strategy in partnership with the Institute for Youth Development KULT and the Youth Council of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
