City of Mostar Encourages Youth Participation in Decision Making

The City of Mostar is committed to creating better conditions for young people to reach their full potential. Involving young people in decision-making has proven to be crucial for strengthening democratic processes and creating a youth-friendly society responsive to their needs. By supporting youth organization projects, the City provides a valuable mechanism for empowering young people, offering them the space and opportunity to develop concrete activities and solutions to the challenges they face.

An evaluation commission was formed by the City of Mostar to select projects that will be supported, and the City is committed to including young people in the work of this commission.

With the support of the Institute for Youth Development KULT, the City of Mostar will develop a solution to ensure the inclusion of young people in the commission’s work.

During a working meeting with Sabina Memić, expert associate for cooperation with NGOs and youth issues, various challenges in the field were discussed, along with the need for greater youth involvement in decision-making processes. The decline in the number of youth organizations has been identified as a negative trend, not just in Mostar, but other regions as well.

This challenge is being addressed through continuous efforts to inform and motivate young people, particularly those in student councils. The goal is to build their understanding and capacity for democratic action and the exercise of their rights.

These efforts by the City of Mostar to encourage youth participation in democratic processes and decision-making are supported by the project “Designing, Developing and Adopting Youth Policies”, which is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Institute for Youth Development KULT in partnership with the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO), the Youth Council of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Network of youth centers for animation, development and training of Republika Srpska (M.O.C.A.R.T.) and the Association of Secondary School Students in BiH.
