What Is Behind the #necudaidem Campaign?

In the wake of the recently launched online campaign #necudaidem, which had thousands of citizens of BiH and the region posting statuses with the number of people in their social circle who left BiH, 3D drawings with the same hashtag appeared in three BiH cities: Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka.

The drawings depict young people leaving the country in droves, while government representatives stand idly by, as mere observers of this devastating phenomenon.

This campaign was launched by the Institute for Youth Development KULT, in an attempt to draw the government’s attention to the challenges youth face every day, the mass emigration of youth, and also to offer ways to change this current situation.

Youth leaving the country has been a burning issue in BiH for the past few years. According to the Survey on the Position and Needs of Youth, published in 2013 by the Institute for Youth Development KULT, around 150,000 young people left the country between the end of the war and 2013, and according to an online survey conducted in 2017, the lack of a promising future is the main reason youth decide to leave.

The concept of the campaign is based on socially beneficial action that allows for the cooperation among the NGO sector, corporations, businesses, media and all other stakeholders who want to contribute to creating a better climate for youth in BiH.

Implementing the campaign in this way is intended to show the strength of joining forces and overcoming numerous problems with the will and drive to actively participate in social processes.

The ultimate goal is to encourage the competent authorities to take concrete measures to address the fact that youth are leaving this country.

During this campaign, a series of activities will be conducted in an attempt to offer solutions to the many problems faced by youth.

Partners in this campaign are: History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Creative Agency Purple Key, Street Arts Festival Mostar, University Džemal Bijedić in Mostar, Citizens’ Association "Agency for Development and Cooperation CEREBRA Banja Luka“, N1 TV station, Klix.ba, RSG Radio, Radio Antena Sarajevo, Radio MIX and Oslobođenje.
